In Kentucky, over 100,000 children under the age of eighteen (18) live with their grandparents or other relatives. As one of the highest rates of children in care of grandparents and other relatives over 85,000 live with their grandparents, while 21,000 live with other relatives. There are many benefits and challenges associated with kinship care, yet research shows children are better off in the care of grandparents or other relatives than in other out-of-home placements.

Navigating the world of kinship care can be challenging with various unforeseen health, financial, nutritional, educational, behavioral, and legal issues. Our hope is to ease the strain of kinship caregivers and provide community resources that can improve quality of care and family outcomes.
